Hummingbird?  Is that you?

I thought I heard

The beating of your wings

Out on the bough of holly

Where the Robin sings.

You have been to the ocean

And back.

As I can see

From the way you bob your head

To and fro

You have gathered the flotsam and jetsam of life

And are flitting it out of your body.

Gone.  Where did you go?

Back, so soon?

Tiny, fluttering bird

Take me where you’ve been.

What wondrous sights

We could see together

You, my Hummingbird, and I.

You come to me

Dancing sweetly about the holly

With a message.

No, there is no message.

It’s the red berries for which you come,

Me you do not notice.
