The Kelley House is a tremendous local resource for Mendocino. The amount of information and the services provided by the Kelley House are quite extensive. A simple search using the search tool on their site resulted in the posts below about the Sea Gull. Think in the Morning downloaded a few of the photos and comments. There is plenty more for those who want to dig it out.
Searching for NAPKIN I found three collections of Sea Gull Napkin Art at the Kelley House. I am hoping to add to these collections in the future.

Documentation on the life and work of designer and home builder, David Parker Clayton. A native of Oakland, California, David was an abstract artist when he came to the Mendocino coast in the 1960’s. A painter, his work evolved into sculpture just before becoming a house designer. Clayton’s designs, such as the Sea Gull Inn in Mendocino and dozens of private homes on the Mendocino Coast were well respected and received coverage in national design magazines such as Fine Homes Building and Sunset. David Clayton died on December 22, 1983 from injuries he received in an automobile accident on Hwy One at Russian Gulch.
Nine menus of various sizes from the Sea Gull Restaurant of Mendocino beginning in 1967 and ending with 1976. From the 1960s to the 1990s, the Seagull Restaurant was a well-loved Mendocino institution. Martin and Marlene Hall, together with their four children, came to Mendocino in 1962 to operate Cafe Mendocino. After the name changed to Sea Gull Inn, it became a symbol of the Mendocino Community. In late 1972 David and Cathy Jones took over. Sidetracked from a Berkeley Ph.D. by a series of family tragedies, David moved to Mendocino where he met Cathy. Cathy was raised in Caspar and can trace her roots to mid-19th century Pine Grove. Together they ran the Seagull for 13 years.

My recollection is that David Clayton was killed crossing the highway in his pickup at Little Lake Rd. He was hit by a logging truck coming down the highway. That’s why they have the traffic signal there now. Of course, my memory could be faulty, it was a long time ago. I went to the Salmon Creek School, which David and Mary Clayton had on their property on Middle Ridge Rd., in Albion, for 6th grade, in the 1970/71 school year. I was a bit older than their boys.
Alison, thank you for your comment. David was killed at the turnoff from Highway #1 to Russian Gulch. He was turning into Russian Gulch and did not see a car driving south that slammed into him. He was in his Volvo with his carpenters tool box in the rear. The collision caused the toolbox to slam forward and hit him in the head. It was a great tragedy. He was at the height of his career as an architect. I still miss him and think often about those times. David
