In the 1970s and 80s the Sea Gull Cellar Bar was famous for many things and especially the live jazz performances on Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons. Thanks to Judy Mayhan we are able to present three live recordings from those times featuring Judy Mayhan (piano, vocals), Kiyoshi Tokunaga (bass and frugal horn), and John Gilmore (piano and synthesizer). Click on the first song to listen. The next songs should play automatically but you may have to wait a minute. Some of you may remember those days.
Ah, the frugal horn.
Wonderful Wonderful!
Thank you so much!
Awesome Dave. This lets me sit back and think of my parents out for a date night – hanging with friends. I love it.
This is so WONDERFUL!!!!
BIGTIME Thank You, David!
Update ~ early June, 2020
Judy is currently recovering from busting her HIP!
John’s Gone…
WHERE IS KIYOSHI????
anyone in touch with him?
Thank you David, this is a real treat.
Kiyoshi (Ken) Tokunaga performed in Denver, CO and in Boulder, CO with Tonk Edwards and others back in the early ’80’s. Left to go back to CA and last I know he lives in Hyde Park, NY. He’s in his early eighties now. Too bad time flies by so quickly and aging and death has taken these past Jazz musicians. Truly sad!
I know Kiyoshi’s daughter, Melodie. I passed her this link. She is showing him this tomorrow.
Thank you
Thanks. Awesome music. They used to practice at The Well, and I heard them frequently there.
thanks for the awesome music. btw Kiyoshi Tokunaga has been shown on some late 60s savoy records, which is produced by the great Bill Dixon, called New Jazz Series.
Thanks for your comment and the information.
Thanks Marco. Much appreciated.
