The news this morning is that Ted Cruz will lead a group of 11 Senators to oppose President Elect Joe Biden’s certification.  Senator Cruz, known as Lucifer in the Flesh or more affectionately as the Lovechild of Joe McCarthy and Dracula, seems to be laying the foundation to challenge Moscow Mitch (that would be Senator Mitch McConnell) for the Republican (the majority until Tuesday) leader of the Senate.  Or, for the Presidency at some yet to be determined time.  Ted Cruz has that peculiar political skill of being able to speak out of both sides of his mouth at the same time, loving and hating Donald Trump who lusted after Ted’s wife. Oh what irony lies within the “white” house.

It is a well-known fact that the two major political parties in the United States are and have been for some time fragmenting into clones of Humpty Dumpty—that is, the Divided States of America (communists, socialists, racists, nazis, fascists, rapists, drug dealers, criminals, terrorists and “a few good people”)–the population of which is duking it out in an unparalleled catfight the likes of which have never been seen before.  It’s the biggest, greatest fight in history and you, socially distanced with mask on, have a ringside seat.

Where this will lead is as yet undetermined.  The libertarian solution of every man for himself would please Rand Paul who is watching from the sidelines hoping to get in the game.  (The Squad prefers every woman for herself and a government “of the people, by the people and for the people,” the problem being how to define “people.”)  A handful of naïve centrists, holdovers from a time when the idea of democracy was understood to be the worst of all possible systems except for all the rest, has formed a group imaginatively called “No Labels,” by which I think they mean “No Lapels” which obviously precludes lapel pins so dear to the heart of dictators and generals.

We live in interesting times.  According to the Chinese curse first uttered by such famous Chinese as Robert Kennedy and the son of Neville Chamberlain, to live in interesting times means to live without a clue to where we’ve been or where we’re going but to know exactly what we’re doing without regard.  To live without regard has been the signpost of the current administration, the Neverending story, which, if Lucifer in the Flesh has his way, will never end.
