An ongoing project for Think in the Morning is going through our digital collection of napkin art from the 70s and 80s and formatting the napkins for use on our site. [Search our site for “napkin art” or “poetry” to find a number of napkin art posts.] Every so often we come across a napkin that tells an interesting story. In some cases the story is unknown to us but we have been fortunate in our ability to search out many of the stories by contacting the napkin artists directly or searching online. When I first saw the napkin at the top of this post, I had no idea what it meant. With a few clicks of the mouse I discovered an amazing website, In Deep Music Archive, maintained by a dedicated music buff and talented musician, Marty Willson-Piper. Check out his music. His international tours fit nicely into our recent posts on travel.
I have no idea who created this piece of napkin art or what they were thinking but I suspect it refers to the performer and song below. You can read Marty Willson-Piper’s comments on Drupi and see a translation of the lyrics HERE. Follow the links, listen to the music. Remember. Enjoy.
Dear David! & the World! ~
I just spent a distracted bit of my morning in “Drupiland”…forwarding TITM to Our Esteemed Trambone Leader In Exile, Eric Wik!
Drupi (named for Droopy Dawg!) is a teensy tad YOUNGER than I & still singing Vado Via to ecstatic Middle Aged singalong crowds!
He has kept his lovely Italian hair & his voice…looking kinda like Sherman Alexie’s Rockstar Period!
Rock On!
